Well, following a crazy whirlwind move (thanks to my ultra motivated dad and stepmom!!) we're finally in our house. There are still a thousand things to do, but we're finally 'home'.
It feels great.

Big shocker
Well when I arrived home from work today, That Husband Of Mine (now to be referred to as THOM or Thom...) informed me that our neighbours apartment had been crawling with 4 of the biggest cops he's ever seen.
This would be asshole neighbour I am speaking of... Yeah, apparently asshole neighbour has been dealing coke.
Splendid.
Honey, I dare say that it's time to move!

Death warmed over...

Well, I don't really feel that bad, but I'm feeling pretty horrid today... Ugh. What a way to end the Easter weekend! I was ever granted the day off too!! Hardly fair! My müesli from 7:00am this morning isn't sitting too well... and that's all I've had to eat today! Let's just say that this bottle of Perrier is my buddy...
It was a good weekend, regardless of how I feel today.
Did a bunch of stuff over at the house, such as moving a few things over and preparing the rooms for hardwood refinishing (ie. cleaning them out!). That took an entire day!
Visited with J's family and had Easter dinner.
Although I have absolutely no right to comment, I was frustrated by how J's sisters were treating their children's naptimes. It seemed as if everyone had to completely walk on eggshells! Speak quietly! Don't walk down the hall near the bedroom because the floor creaks! Don't run the water in the kitchen (under the bedroom) on full! Should we run the dishwasher? I was a little put off by being asked to keep it down.. but I know that parents have the rights to raise their kids the way they want. Conversely, my personal thought is that kids have to learn to deal with noise, and no time is soon enough. Thoughts?
We also dropped by to visit my dad's mom. From what I've been hearing from my dad lately, I wasn't sure she was going to make it to the weekend, but she did and she was having a really good day. Had a few bites to eat and some water. Considering she had spent a few days in a row sleeping, this was good news. J and I visited with her for about two hours and it was great. She snoozed for part of the visit and struggled with speaking, but I know she was happy to see us there.
During the visit another resident of the facility dropped by. She doesn't seem to have all her faculties (repeated herself 10-15 times), but what was clear was her liking of my grandma. She teared up while in the room and kept saying, "She's going to pull out of this..." and "She's a lovely woman". Really sweet and so very touching. It's great to hear good things about people you care about from their peers.
So we're officially in the single digits of the countdown to the move. I'm so excited to get out of this apartment (although the apartment itself is fine...) and away from the asshole neighbour. He has taken to averting his eyes since "the confrontation"... good...
Back to laying on the couch for me.

2 weeks to go
Wow... what a week it has been!
A few things have changed at the house in the past week, and it's really great to see some progress!! We are now very much in the rebuilding of the bathroom phase and today the drywall is going up!! YAY!
On Monday and Tuesday, the tile is going in! YAY!
And the electrician we hired to rewire the house (it had very old wiring and even some knob and tube!) was able to rewire the diningroom light without destroying the nice plaster ceiling! YAY! And the front hall light. YAY!
99% of the wallpaper has been stripped. YAY!
On top of all that, we get our appliances this week, the hardwood gets refinished next week and the first quote we got for redoing the roof over the sunroom was quite a bit lower than we thought. Triple YAY!
Things are going quite well, knock on wood, and I'm looking forward to finally moving in! Only two weeks to go...
Then it will be all about fixing some cracks in the plaster walls, painting and setting up shop. Then maybe, just maybe, we can buy some adult furniture! I can't wait!
And by adult furniture I don't mean chunky wood with leather straps or anything, but stuff that can't be broken down into little pieces to facilitate moving all over the province... Just wanted to clarify! :)

Shaking
I'm shaking with anger and adrenaline right now.
My asshole neighbour just confronted me in the hallway and told me that if he wants to have sex with his 'old lady' that he should damnwell not need to apologise for it.
While this may be true, he damnwell should answer for something coming through those walls.
Last night after spending the entire afternoon and evening working on the house, J and I were really tired and crashed into bed. Around 1:00am a pounding came through the walls and I thought it was yet another occurrence of my neighbour being an asshole. Well, apparently this noise was sex...
On a weekly basis we hear the following come through the walls:
__"Shut up you fucking bitch"
__"You're a stupid fucking c***"
__"Shut the fuck up"
__"I want my money back you cocksucker"
__...etc, etc.
I'm sure you get the idea. My neighbour also likes to have gatherings of loud men that last well into the early hours of morning. Last night I wasn't about to let any noise, coming through the walls, slide.
So anyhow I was confronted this morning on my way to the car and he said, "I know these walls are paper thin, but we all need to live together".
Sure, asshole... for another three weeks.
I really should have said, "Do you hear us through the walls? Have we ever bothered you with our music or discussion or gatherings". I'm sure the answer would have been no, because we're aware of this kind of thing. I also should have confronted him with "I'd rather not hear (insert assholish thing here) through the walls and maybe you could keep it down".
Then again, I might have ended up with a black eye... He has a real knack with women.

Booooooooooooo
OK, so that lovely sunroom of ours?
Yeah... the previous owners simply ignored the leak in the roof.... for a decade!
My dad ripped down the pine ceiling cover, then the shitty acoustic tile and then the plaster board... all to reveal one fully, and several partially, rotten 2x10 boards.
Who exactly leaves a leak that long?
Thank you previous owners. We are now officially in the red. : (
