Made it!

Well, we did our 5 day canoe trip, and it was certainly awesome!

Long story short:

__- we were lucky that we've had a lot of rain this year... otherwise we probably would have
___ pushed our canoe more than paddled it on the second day
__- all the dehydrated food worked out amazingly well!! GO ME!

__- we saw up to 30 or so loons
__- we saw about 15 blue herons
__- we saw two moose (or parts of them... me... I saw ears)
__- we were SOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky with the weather
____-considering we booked this trip back in April, we really lucked out with sun filled days
_____for 80% of our trip!

__- we saw a muskrat
__- we re-learned that a water filter is REALLY important and it really sucks when it breaks...
__- we learned that Lake Lavieille can be a real peach with a strong north wind

__- we saw some amazingly huge (i.e., 35m tall) white pines
__- we saw some 350 year old red pines
__- we saw some super cool and huge hemlocks
__- we did a 5300m (3.3 miles) portage in 1 hour and 42 minutes. ROCK ON!

The trip was really amazing and halfway through it I was already wishing it was longer. Considering it was our first just the two of us... I can see this being the first of many!

Guilty as charged

DEHYDRATED! At the back is a good sized moose roast made into two baggies worth of jerky. A small head of broccoli, one medium carrot and three mushrooms (to be put in a pasta sauce - soon to be dehydrated as well). Homemade refried beans to be made into burritos in the middle of Algonquin Park!

It all started innocently enough. We're planning to do a 5 day canoe trip in two weeks and I thought I should find ways to lessen the weight of our food pack...

I'm having lots of fun with the food dehydrator, though. Probably too much fun... this could get addictive.

Now pardon me while I scan my fridge and cupboards for more things to dehydrate...

Off camping

Short post to say that we're off camping with Thom's family this weekend. Should be great.

Us, his siblings and their two little ones... on their first camping trip ever. Could be very interesting, but I'm sure we'll have many memories come out of this trip.
